(14 FEBRUARY 2014) Bangalore CCK launched it's new initiative, PUBLIC LECTURE SERIES- taking craft into India’s future, with a panel discussion on “India’s Handloom legacy: Does it have a future?“ Panelists were Sri Prasanna, handloom activist, Theatre activist, litterateur and member of Apex Committee on Integrated Development Scheme, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and Prof. Ashoke Chatterjee, Member of Working Group on Handloom, Planning Commission, Past President of Crafts Council of India, Hon. Advisor, CCI.
(30 JANUARY 2014) HEGGODU, SHIVAMOGGA DISTRICT. CCK was invited to participate in the Handloom Padayatra, ending in the Hunger Strike in Heggodu village, Shivamogga district on 30 January, in which activists and NGO’s participated. A visit was made to the headquarters of the NGO Charkha, that produced handloom garments run by Shri Prasanna under the brand name DESI.
(30 JANUARY – 01 FEBRUARY) SAGAR, SORABA, (SHIVAMOGGA DISTRICT) & SIRSI (UTTAR KANNADA DISTRICT) The possibility of CCK implementing the “Educate to Sustain” program in Karnataka, in partnership with Crafts Council of India was explored. A pilot visit was made by the CCK team to get a first hand experience of the craft pockets in the towns of Sagar and Soraba in Shivamogga District and Sirsi in Uttar Kannada District, to evaluate the state of the craft of wood carving in this region and the possibility of implementing the scheme. A meeting was held with artisans in each of these towns, to evaluate their feedback. A visit was also made to The Gurukul Crafts Training Centre started by KSHDC in Sagar town.
(12-18 JANUARY 2014) Bangalore Kuteera – the annual Exhibition and Sale of Crafts was held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, in which 45 craftspersons from all over India participated. The exhibition was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi.
(11 JANUARY 2014) Bangalore Shri Prasanna, handloom activist, invited CCK to participate in a meeting of handloom activists and garment manufacturers in Bangalore to participate in and support the Handloom Satyagraha movement.
(30 JANUARY 2014) JEEKAVANDANAHALLI, CHIKBALLAPUR DISTRICT. A pilot visit was made by the CCK team to the village of Jeekavandanapalli on 30 January.
The Crafts Council of Karnataka’s annual flag ship event, Vastrabharana - Exhibition and Sale of hand- crafted textiles and jewellery was held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath between 28 September and 02 October 2013, in which 45 textile exhibitors participated.
The exhibiton was inaugurated by Smt. Vyjayantimala Bali.
