WOOD CRAFT OF KARNATAKA - BOOK RELEASE

(16 MARCH 2012) Bangalore This book contains the role of wood in the construction of temples, palaces and heritage buildings in Karnataka. It was released by Shri. Chiranjiv Singh, former Indian Ambassador to UNESCO.

KAMALADEVI PURUSKAR AWARD – DELHI CRAFTS COUNCIL

(25 FEBRUARY 2012) NEW DELHI Smt. Sabiha Banu, wood and lacquer turnery craftsperson from Channapattna, Karnataka, was awarded the Kamaladevi Puruskar, instituted by Delhi Crafts Council. The award was presented to her on 25 February 2012 at the India International Centre, New Delhi.

CRAFTS BAZAR

(19 – 28 FEBRUARY 2012) Bangalore 165 crafts persons from across India participated in this event, a first for The Crafts Council of Karnataka. The exhibition and sale was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi.

ARTISANS WELFARE

(13 NOVEMBER 2011) Bangalore World Elders Day was celebrated by The Crafts Council of Karnataka, in association with Ashvasan Foundation. Smt. Gowramma , a Hase Chittara craftsperson from Sagar, Shivamogga District, was awarded a purse of Rs. 10,000.

VASTRABHARANA

(30 SEPTEMBER – 04 OCTOBER 2011) Bangalore Crafts Council of India’s annual flagship event, Vastrabharana - Exhibition and sale of handcrafted textiles and jewellery was held between 30 September - 04 October 2011.

DESIGN AND TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP IN LACQUERED WOOD

(15 JUNE – 01 JULY 2011) CHANNAPATANA The Crafts Council of Karnataka organised a design and technical development workshop for wood lacquerware at Channapatna . NID designer Meera Naidu and master craftsperson Shri Kauser Pasha conducted the workshop.

The workshop was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi.

KAMALADEVI CHATTOPADHYAY VISHWAKARMA AWARDS

(08 JUNE 2011) Bangalore These awards instituted in the name of Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, Founder Patron of The Crafts Council of Karnataka, for young and promising craftspersons, were given at an awards event, held at Raj Bhavan on 08 June 2011. His Excellency, the Governor of Karnataka gave away the awards to the following craftspersons of Karnataka :
-   Smt. Bhagyalakshmi (2008) for Traditional Mysore Painting.
-   Shri. S Somasekhar (2009) for Bronze Casting
-   Smt. Vidya Bhat ( 2010) for Ganjifa Art and Traditional Miniature Painting.
