SKILL UPGRADATION TRAINING PROGRAM IN BRONZE CASTING

(MARCH 2006 – SEPTEMBER 2007) The Crafts Council of Karnataka conducted a Skill Upgradation Workshop in Bronze Casting. Designer Shri K. Vittal Bhandary and Karnataka State Awardee, master-craftsperson Shri Veerabhadrachar conducted the training in which 10 craftspersons participated.

The workshop was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi.

KAMALA – 2006

(19 - 25 JANUARY 2006) CHENNAI The Crafts Council of Karnataka participated in Kamala 2006 –a Joint Crafts Councils Exhibition at Chennai.

The exhibition was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ON TEMPLE TEXTILE EMBROIDERY

(9 - 29 NOVEMBER 2005) Bangalore

The Crafts Council of Karnataka organised a Design Development Workshop on Temple Textile Embroidery, to revive the traditional zardosi embroidery form, that were sewn on garments for idols in Vaishnavite temples of Karnataka.

NID designer Meera Naidu and master crafts person M.A. Godha conducted the workshop, in which 25 craftspersons participated.

The workshop was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi.

VASTRABHARANA 2005

(01 – 06 OCTOBER 2005) Bangalore

The Crafts Council of Karnataka’s annual flag ship event Vastrabharana - Exhibition and Sale of hand- crafted textiles and jewellery was held between 01 – 06 October 2005

The highlight of Vastrabharana 2005 were Ajrakh textiles from Kutch.

Smt. Vimala Rangachar, Chairperson of CCK and master craftsperson Shri Mohamed Siddique from Rajasthan inaugurated the Exhibition.

SEMINAR ON CRAFTS IN ARCHITECTURE, INTERIORS AND LANDSCAPES

(16 -17 JULY 2005) Bangalore

The Crafts Council of Karnataka, in association with the Indian Institute of Architects (Karnataka Chapter) and Indian Institute of Interior Designers (Bangalore Regional Chapter) organised a 2 day seminar “Crafts In Architecture, Interiors & Landscapes”.

Leading architects, interior designers, landscape architects, crafts activists, artists and students participated in a seminar that highlighted the role played by crafts in design and architecture in India. It stressed the importance of functional and mutually beneficial relationships and collaborations between traditional craftspersons and modern architects, through a process of mutual respect and understanding. The seminar was accompanied by an exhibition of selected crafts. An Essay Competition for architecture students “Why I use craft in design” was introduced”.

The event was sponsored by Ganjam.

Illustrated Talk on Painted Wood-Ware of Kinhal Craft

(2005) Bangalore

Secretary CCK, Mangala Narasimhan and Geetha Rao, Joint Secretary presented an Illustrated Talk on Kinhal Craft at Smriti Nandan Cultural Centre.

CRAFTS IN EDUCATION

(2005) Bangalore A short term training program in Bamboo Crafts was held for school children at Kishore Kendra School, Bangalore.
